Khabib retiring as the GOAT
Khabib marked his 29th win with his retirement. the Eagle revealed that he promised his mother he would no longer fight without his father in his corner.
The late Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov was his sons biggest driving force, coaching Khabib from a young age right until he passed earlier this year. This was Khabib’s last fight in the UFC.
Let’s talk about the fight. Wow. This was Khabib’s best ever performance. In the first round, the Eagle had a stand up fight with Justin. Holding his own in an extremely even round. He took some straight shots from Gaethje and keep putting the pressure on.
You could almost see Gaethje anticipating the take down the entire round but the big shot never came. Then, in the second, Khabib got in deep on a double leg near to the cage. This was the begining of the end for Gaethje. The Eagle was transitioning in top mount so effortlessly before he threatened an arm bar that turned into a triangle choke. The Highlight Reel was asleep within 5 seconds.
This was one of the best performances in UFC history, not just for Khabib, and now it is time to appreciate the Russian for the level of athlete that he was/is.
Talk about going out on top.
Robert Whittaker looked sensational against a very dangerous Jared Cannonier. The Aussie won by unanimous decision and, apart from a shaky last 30 seconds in the 3rd, won every exchange in the bout.
In the post fight press-conference, Whittaker was very honest on his thoughts over fighting Israel again. To paraphrase, he will fight whoever is sent his way, but Adesanya is a hard fight and Robert is OK with having some time off (probably wants Christmas off with his family).
A very reasonable thing to say from the number one middleweight contender.
